The primary difference is the size and shape of the footboard—and the playing feel that results. All three styles offer the smooth, responsive feel of AXiS direct-drive pedals and are available with X-CAM, A-CAM, or A21-CAM configurations.

Shortboard

The Shortboard provides a compact, traditional pedal feel. Its footboard is 10 inches long and 3.5 inches wide at the AXiS logo, with a separate 1.5-inch heel plate. It is a great choice for heel-down players and drummers who prefer a familiar, balanced playing surface.

Longboard

The Longboard has a 12-inch footboard that is 3.5 inches wide at the AXiS logo. The additional length provides greater leverage and more room to change foot position. It is particularly well suited for heel-toe techniques, fast double-bass playing, and drummers who like to move between different positions on the footboard.

Wideboard

The Wideboard offers the largest playing surface and a slightly heavier, more substantial feel. It measures 12.5 inches long, 4 inches wide at the AXiS logo, and 5 inches wide at the base. It is designed for drummers who prefer more room beneath their feet and the added presence of a larger footboard. The additional width can be especially beneficial for drummers who use a swivel technique. It provides more lateral space for the foot and heel to rotate while helping the player remain securely positioned on the footboard. This makes the Wideboard a strong choice for swivel players, drummers with larger feet, or anyone who prefers more surface area beneath their foot.

There is no “best” footboard for every drummer:

• Choose the Shortboard for a compact, traditional feel.

• Choose the Longboard for additional leverage and foot-positioning options.

• Choose the Wideboard for the largest playing surface and a slightly heavier feel.

Your CAM and spring configuration will further influence the pedal’s power and responsiveness

A direct-drive pedal uses a solid metal linkage to connect the footboard to the beater assembly. This creates an immediate transfer of motion with the beater following every movement of your foot. The result is a fast, precise and highly responsive feel with very little flex or delay.

Traditional pedals use a chain or strap to transfer motion from the footboard to the beater. This generally creates a softer, more gradual response with slightly more flexibility. Many drummers find this familiar feel comfortable and forgiving.

Neither system is inherently better; the right choice comes down to personal preference. Drummers switching to an AXiS direct-drive pedal may need a short adjustment period because our pedals have a more immediate response to smaller foot movements. Once accustomed to that response, many players appreciate the additional speed, control and efficiency direct drive provides.

The CAM is part of the pedal’s drive system. It converts the downward movement of the footboard into the forward rotation of the beater. The CAM’s design also determines how footboard movement is transferred to the beater, influencing the pedal’s leverage, travel, acceleration and overall response.

AXiS offers three (3) different CAM options to address various playing styles, performance needs and drummer preference.

X-CAM - perfect for drummers looking for a simple and consistent setup without sacrificing power or control. This configuration allows you to adjust your beater angle and spring tension, but has limited other adjustability. Preferred by drummers who want a more traditional feel, simple set up yet a broad range of play-ability.

A-CAM - our most versatile CAM option and perfect for drummers who want to dial-in the exact feel of their pedals. The A-CAM has our patented Veritable Drive Lever (VDL) which changes the footboard travel and response independently of the beater angle, allowing the pedal to be tuned from short and responsive to longer and more controlled strokes. Preferred by drummers who want versatility, adjustability, and the widest degree of play-ability.

A21-CAM - preferred by drummers who want adjustability and speed without sacrificing power. This CAM includes our Variable Drive Lever but moves the beater geometry 21 degrees forward to generate greater force and velocity. Perfect for drummers who are looking for speed, control and power.

Yes.

AXiS beaters are compatible with virtually all standard bass drum pedals. While we’re not aware of any pedals that will not accept an AXiS beater, we cannot guarantee compatibility with every model on the market.

No. At this time, we do not offer a pedal exchange or trade-in program.

If your pedals need a complete refresh, repair, or you're interested in upgrading to a newer model, please contact us. We'll be happy to discuss the available options and help you find the best solution.

AXiS currently offers a Standard Driveshaft and an Adjustable Driveshaft. The Standard AXiS Driveshaft comes standard on all new AXiS double pedals while the Adjustable Driveshaft comes standard on all Add-On pedals and our double pedal conversin kits.  

If your AXiS pedals were manufactured before 2021, or you do not know when they were manufactured, we recommend the Adjustable Driveshaft. If your pedals were manufactured in or after 2021, either AXiS driveshaft should work.

Both driveshafts adjust from approximately 14.5 to 21.5 inches and are compatible with all generations of AXiS pedals. Each includes the necessary screws and installation tools. Links Here STANDARD and ADJUSTABLE

Yes. The AXiS Double Pedal Conversion Kit allows two compatible AXiS single pedals to be connected and used as a double pedal.

The kit bolts onto the primary pedal and includes a driveshaft linkage and an auxiliary beater assembly. Disconnecting the driveshaft allows the pedals to be used as individual single pedals again.

The product is offered in right- and left-oriented configurations, silver or black, and X-CAM, A-CAM, or A21-CAM versions.

Yes. All makes and models of AXiS Drum Pedals are made and available in left-handed versions and our add-on pedals are also available in left-handed versions.

If you would like to convert our left-handed pedal to a right-handed setup, or visa-versa - this can be done as well. Please contact us for assistance.

Since its founding in 1990, AXiS Pedal & Drum Company has been proud of its Hand-Build in California legacy. We are headquartered in Northern California and utilize manufacturing facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area and Wisconsin. All pedals and products are built, assembled, finished, tested and shipped from our headquarters in Northern California.

Sort of. AXiS previously manufactured several types of stands, including straight and boom cymbal stands, hi-hat stands, and snare stands. These discontinued products can sometimes be found through online used-equipment marketplaces.

We still offer select replacement parts and accessories for older AXiS stands. We are also redesigning our stand lineup and plan to introduce new products in the future.

No. AXiS does not offer a black driveshaft, they are only available in silver.

AXiS products are not mass-produced. Our pedals and hardware are hand-built in California in relatively small production runs using precision-machined components. Many orders also require final configuration, assembly, inspection, and testing before they can be shipped.

This process can take longer than pulling a mass-produced product from a warehouse, particularly during periods of high demand. We understand that waiting can be frustrating, and we work to ship every order as quickly as possible without compromising the quality and performance expected from AXiS.

Please note that expedited shipping reduces the carrier’s transit time after an order ships; it does not shorten manufacturing or order-processing time. If you need an order by a particular date, contact us before ordering and we will provide the best available estimate.
